Sixteen first-round matches launched the 2026 Seixal Ladies Open as players battled intense summer conditions for a place in Monday’s qualifying finals.
The 2026 Seixal Ladies Open came alive on Sunday as the opening round of qualifying brought 32 players to the CRDBR hard courts in Corroios-Seixal.
It was a demanding first day. Archived local weather data indicates a maximum close to 36.7°C, no recorded rainfall and only a light to moderate breeze. Hydration, patience and intelligent point construction were every bit as important as raw power.
A three-set test and one notable upset
Eva Alvarez Sande produced the day’s standout comeback, defeating ninth seed Lauryn John-Baptiste 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in the only match to require a deciding set. The Spaniard now meets top seed Cagla Buyukakcay, a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Sapir Cohen.
The remaining leading seeds largely held firm. Vaishnavi Adkar, Anastasia Kulikova, Andre Lukosiute, Indianna Spink, Clara Vlasselaer, Carmen Gallardo Guevara and Zoziya Kardava all advanced in straight sets. Raquel Gonzalez Vilar, Chloe Noel, Deniz Dilek, Elyse Tse, Seda Baslilar and Alice Ferlito also secured places in the final qualifying round.
Eight main-draw places on the line
Monday’s play begins at 09:30 across three courts. Eight qualifying-final winners will progress to the main draw, with Zoziya Kardava against Seda Baslilar, Clara Vlasselaer against Deniz Dilek and Andre Lukosiute against Chloe Noel among the opening matches.
The tournament now moves one step closer to the main draw, with another full morning of international women’s tennis in Corroios-Seixal.
